Look what I ran right into last night on the way from home - the presidential motorcade! I really should've known better. The Pope arrived at Andrews at about 4 and I left my office at 4:30 so the odds of running smack into the presidential motorcade as I crossed 15th and Pennsylvania was like 99.9%. It's not unusual in the city to see a motorcade (I saw one on the way to work this morning too) but the president's is a little special. They totally block EVERYTHING off for a while preceeding it. I was stuck on a corner with a bunch of business people and tourists for about 10 minutes. We weren't allowed to step off the curb at all. Politics aside - it was pretty cool and made me wish I'd brought my big girl camera with me.
I finished another sock on Monday so, even though I already had another (secret) sock OTN, my aversion to project mongamy drove me to my pile of UFOs where found this one. I remember it well -Elfine's Socks by Anna Bell in Koigu. Lovely color, lovely yarn, lovely pattern. All good things! So why is this a UFO? Better yet, why has this been OTN since June 2006? Yes - nearly 2 full years!

Yeah, I had to go up to Friendship Heights last night to mail my taxes and totally forgot to think about the fact that the Vatican Embassy is just off Mass Ave. They've got half the road blocked off for the pope, so it's one lane both directions and a total mess.
Needless to say, I drove through Cathedral Heights to Connecticut Ave. to get back home.

I was thinking that when we see a motorcade in my little town then the world will be ending, but then again the rumor is that the Blue Ridge Parkway was designed to be a back route out of WA for the big guns. So yeah, in case of disaster I'll probably see the motorcades.
I totally agree with you regarding knitting two socks at the same time. I knit most of my socks toe up and the first time I tried knitting 2 at the same time I didn't make it far past the toe. The progress just seems like it takes forever and it's too fiddly.
That color is gorgeous! Looks good enough to eat!
I have also come to find that I do not care for knitting socks two at a time as much as one at a time, and I love the portability and convenience of Magic Loop.
