Short, thin grass... one of the compensations for winter is not having to mow.
By the way, I just read a comment you made on Etherknitter a while back. I suggest photographing just the muffintop (no face) and the same area _not_ bulging out of the clothes that fit, showing her the two photos and asking "which one looks fat"?
