October 28, 2009

It's my birthday. Not just any birthday either - 4 freakin decades! Damn! I've tried to wrap my head around this for months and I still think that there's been a mistake in the math somewhere along the way. I'm not sure what 40 feels like but this can't be it. In my head I'm still about 18 and ready to take on the world.

Anyway, I already celebrated by treating myself to a trip to Rhinebeck. Do I know how to treat myself or what? That was all the party I could ever want.

Now I want to invite you all to celebrate with me. I stopped at the Fold while I was at Rhinebeck and picked this up - for you! It's the Enchanted Sole by Janel Laidman and a skein of STR Lightweight in a color called Never on Sunday.

As if that wasn't enough I picked up a few things at my LYS last weekend to share too. There's some Pagewood Farm Denali, Mini Mochi, Ty-Dy Socks, and a pretty blue Zauerball. Any of it could be yours!

Here's the plan. Leave a comment - any comment - on this post. Tell me which of these yarns is your favorite. Tell me why you love the Fall. Give me suggestions of what to make with the 11 skeins of black Cascade Sierra that I bought for me. (I'm thinking pullover). Leave a comment on this post by November 4th and I'll pick one at random to get the STR and the book. But...
If I get at least 40 comments then I'll pick a second winner for one of the treats from my LYS. After that, for every 10 comments over 40 I'll give away something else from the pile. So leave a comment - with your email please so can contact you if you win. Send your friends. the more comments I get the more I'll give away.

40 is for amateurs! It's my husbands's birthday today too; let's just say that the day you were born, he was getting his first driver's license. Anyway, you know what they say, age is a case of mind over matter - if you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Happy Birthday. I enjoy reading your blog and am in awe of the lovely socks you make on a regular basis. Have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday, Hillary! I hope you stayed home from work today and are celebrating with style, surrounded by your favorite people and things. And if not, I hope you get outside soon. I just saw some blue sky that should be headed up the K St. corridor for a few minutes at least.

Sending you lots of wishes for today's and future happiness.

Happy Birthday Hillary!

I've heard of but not tried any of the LYS yarns you brought home. The blue Zauerball looks lovely!

I love the smell of newly fallen leaves and the way the sun lights up fall leaves in the late afternoon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Hillary!!! I love that Mini Mochi, but then again love the STR. I love the crisp air and apples. I love butternut squash soup and pumpkin ravioli. I love sweater and scarf (but not coat) weather.

Happy Birthday! 40 is fabulous.

I must say I love that STR. I love it so much I bought a skein at Rhinebeck too.

As for a sweater, check out Ellen's sweater here http://cityknitter.typepad.com/cityknitter/2009/10/go-to-sweater-kal-update.html
Isn't it just lovely. It would be really nice in black.

Happy Birthday! 40 years is long enough to learn lots of life-lessons. You're finally old enough to know better, and you're still young enough to do it anyway! Go for it.

Happy Birthday, Hillary! You certainly do know how to celebrate. I hope this year is filled with peace, blessings, and health.

A birthday is a great reason to love Fall (mine is tomorrow, the 29th). It is my favorite season because of the leaves, the weather (wool time again!), the food. Although it has been more than a few years since I have been in school, Fall still feels like the beginning of the new year for me.

Happy belated birthday! My 40's don't seem as bad as I feared they would be when first facing them. Besides as Philippa says, 'it's all a state of mind.'

I love Autumn! I love watching the changing colors. There's something new to see every day. Besides Autumn colors are "my" colors.

I have a skein of that exact color of Zauerball.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Hillary! I'm sorry I missed the actualy day :-(

I love the earrings stinkette made for you and her reason for using the wood - awesome.

How about the Simply Sierra sweater from the Cascade website? I think it'd be beautiful in black. http://cascadeyarns.com/patternsFree/W209_SierraSimply.pdf

The only thing I love about Fall is the beautiful colors (but those don't last long enough for me to be able to honestly say that I like Fall; all I can think of is what's coming next).

My favorite yarn out of the bunch - the Zauerball.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy belated birthday!

I look forward to checking your blog every morning. It's always so positive and the photography is gorgeous.

I've recently fallen for the Mochi yarns! I love the long color runs like the Noro's but it's so soft and superwash. I've just made Fetchings for both of my girls out of the Mochi Plus and will be making matching calorimetrys with the left overs. They might end up with matching stocks from the Mini Mochi for the holidays!

Best wishes - Chris
